Struggle for Justice: Four Decades of Civil Rights Photography

From Jim Crow to Black Power, the Briscoe Center’s exhibit, “Struggle for Justice,” takes visitors on a journey through the flashpoints and achievements of the civil rights movement.

Ben Wright, the Briscoe Center’s Associate Director for Communications, will talk about the exhibit and how “Struggle for Justice” also celebrates the legacy of the photojournalists who documented the violent response to civil rights activism. Photojournalism helped to galvanize support for the civil rights movement and its legislative goals, as well as to discredit the actions of those who stood in the movement’s way.

    About out speaker

Prior to joining the Briscoe Center, Ben Wright worked as a reporter in El Paso and Austin, as well as serving as a policy analyst and press secretary in the Texas Legislature. In 2008, Ben earned an MA in Modern History from King’s College London, and he has recently been accepted into the UT History Department’s PhD program where he will specialize in American History between the Civil War and World War I. Originally from England, Ben has been in Texas since 2003.
