The Return of the I-35 Expert: A Milestone Update with Tommy Abrego, TxDOT

About the Program:

Our favorite I-35 expert is back! After providing essential updates in 2022 and 2024, Tommy Abrego returns to MBC to walk us through the significant progress made on the Mobility35 program and the road ahead.

As the program manager for one of the most consequential infrastructure projects in Texas history, Tommy offers an unparalleled look at the completed milestones and the critical work remaining. From the $4.5 billion Capital Express investment to the long-term vision for regional connectivity, this session is your chance to find out exactly how this massive expansion will continue to impact your daily commute and the future of Austin’s landscape.

Don't miss this opportunity to get the facts straight from the source on the project reshaping the heart of our city.

Bio: Tommy Abrego began his career with TxDOT in 2007, working as a summer hire in the North Travis Area Office. After graduating from the University of Texas in 2010 with a degree in civil engineering, Tommy accepted a position in the Bridge Division as a bridge design engineer. Three years later, Tommy moved to the Traffic Safety Division where he served in various roles of engineering, policies and standards.

In 2018 Tommy joined the South Travis Area Office and later became the Design Team lead. In that role, he was responsible for delivering design projects in South Travis and Hays counties. Tommy is the Mobility35 Program manager, where he is responsible for overseeing I-35 projects in the Austin District.
