Leslie Hyland Rodgers will talk about the personal journey that inspired her to launch and nurture the mission of Symphony of Soul over the last 16 years. With a roster of more than 100 professional musicians, the Austin-based nonprofit performs roughly 400 times a year. They provide “musical medicine for the soul” to people who are confined in hospitals, shelters, rehab centers, and retirement homes.
About our speaker:
Leslie Hyland Rodgers is an accomplished singer, actress, fashion model, artist, writer, and producer. She has performed in an impressive array of soap operas, commercials, independent and experimental films, television movies, operas, plays, musicals, and music videos. She has produced three CDs. One, Love Notes, is a collection of her mom’s favorite show tunes. It was her mother’s diagnosis of Stage 3 cancer that brought Ms. Rodgers to Austin in May 2000. While supporting her mom through treatment in Houston, she also found the time to create a new nonprofit—Symphony of Soul. Today, Ms. Rodgers and her vast musical team spread the healing power of music through all genres of music—classical, jazz, rock, blues, and more.
