With incumbent Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton not standing for re-election, and polling day around the corner, join us for a refreshingly respectful and informative debate between the two candidates for Travis County Sheriff as they discuss their platforms and qualifications.

About our speakers:

Sally Hernandez (D) is the elected Constable of Precinct Three and is running to be the second woman Sheriff in Travis County and the fifth woman Sheriff, out of 254, in Texas. Sally started out her law enforcement career in 1981 as a night dispatcher in order to take care of her child with special needs during the day. In 1988, she moved to Austin and began working for Travis County as a deputy with the Constable’s Office, Precinct Three. In 1992, Sally was hired as a Sergeant Investigator by former Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, a position she held until she was promoted to Chief of Investigations in 2005. Sally remained Chief Investigator until the voters in Travis County elected her Constable.

Joe Martinez (R) has dedicated his life to helping others in his community. Joe began his career in law enforcement at age 22, and has never looked back. Guided by passion to protect and serve his fellow man, he has served the people of Travis County across many levels of public safety: from his early days as a police officer, where he was promoted to detective for the Travis County Sheriff's Office, to his retirement in 2003 from the District Attorney's Office as Sergeant Investigator. Yet, his passion for law enforcement did not stop there. Since retiring, Joe has continued working as a licensed private investigator for CM Investigations, Inc. He has received awards on multiple occasions for displaying courage and honor in the line of duty including the prestigious Master Peace Officer award.
