As Texas decides whether to pass a bill banning transgender people from public bathrooms – a move that could cost the Texas economy $3.3 billion and 35,600 jobs according to a study released in April 2017 – just what impact does the LGBTQ community have?
Join us as Edgar Gierbolini, President and CEO of the Austin Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, discusses how LGBTQ individuals affect the economy nationwide and locally as consumers and also as business owners. He’ll also talk about how the Austin Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce drives that impact by pushing for economic equality in Central Texas.
About Our Speaker
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Edgar has called Austin home for twenty-five years. With over 15 years of sales, event planning, and marketing experience, he is a Certified Meeting Professional through the Convention Industry Council, and a former board member for the local chapter of the International Association of Exhibition and Events. He has spent a large part of his career in the hospitality industry in Austin as well as traveling as a task force representative in the Fort Worth, San Antonio, Dayton, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Phoenix markets.
He served on the Board of Directors of the AGLCC for many years and lastly as Board Chair before transitioning to his current staff role. Most recently he worked in Fund Development for a local nonprofit supporting those facing cancer and HIV.
