The Politics of Tourism in Austin

The City of Austin's Hotel Occupancy Tax generates over $50 million a year in revenue that goes to support the city's tourism industry. But how are these funds being allocated and how might it change in the future? Catlin Whitington of the Austin Tourism Commission joins us for a conversation about about the Hotel Occupancy Tax and the politics behind Austin's tourism industry.

About Our Speaker:

Catlin Whitington is a senior event and urban planning professional with SXSW who focuses on long-range infrastructure and logistics development and the relationship between events, policy and urban environments.  Through this lens, Catlin applies economic development best practices, policy and land use analysis for the strategic planning of this global event.  He serves as Chair of the Austin Tourism Commission, on the board of the Shoal Creek Conservancy and advises on Music related policy issues for various organizations.
