Dragons, Booze, and Overnight Success: The Journey of an 8-year Startup
After a one-year stint as tequila brokers and consultants, Lamar and his wife Laura co-founded Dragon Spirits in April 2013 to solve a massive problem for liquor, wine, and beer companies: Providing well educated, dependable, part-time brand ambassadors who "brand activated" at marketing events, tastings, festivals, and trade shows.
Dragon Spirits grew slowly at first, as Laura took a full-time job at a retail liquor store and Lamar drove for Uber/Lyft to make ends meet. The following eight years culminated in building the current #1 Brand Ambassador Marketplace in America.
Today, Dragon Spirits is a million-dollar company, operating in 30+ states, with 17+ employees and 5000+ brand ambassadors (affectionately called Dragons) activating liquor, beer, wine and CPG brands, all on an in-house created software marketplace aptly named the Dragon Engagement Network.™
Lamar will share the mistakes made, obstacles overcome, and the discovery of finding true purpose as a brand ambassador for an important piece of our changing economy...a trend allowing anyone to work on their own time (all the time) as a primary and/or secondary career: The Gig Economy.

Lamar Romero is founder and CEO of Dragon Spirits Marketing (a Capital Factory validated company), the #1 Brand Ambassador Gig Marketplace that solves the massive problem of matching amazing, growing brands with educated, curated, and passionate brand ambassadors at 1000’s of brand activations across the US.
Lamar graduated from Texas A&M University in 1998 - WHOOP! - and started his career in 1999 working for Dell Computer, winning several awards including President's Club in 2002, but by 2008 Lamar left Dell to pursue his many passions.
In 2012, Lamar and his wife Laura discovered a new passion: Tequila. They founded Tequila Tribe, promoting tequila all across the state of Texas. This strange hobby led to the founding of Dragon Spirits Marketing in April 2013.
Lamar is the happy father of two beautiful boys, Lyric and Ladon, whose primary language is Spanish, due to the fact that his wife, Laura Valentino Romero, is amazing beyond belief. In his spare time, Lamar still enjoys strategy games on Steam, working out Crossfit style with his friends, and certainly not least, wrestling and sword fighting with his two boys as much as possible.
