How to Chart a Course for Common Ground
It's easier than ever for people to seek out media coverage they agree with instead of reporting that presents hard truths. But our community can't tackle problems if we aren't starting from some patch of common ground. Bridget Grumet, the Metro columnist for the Austin American-Statesman, will discuss her efforts to present issues in ways that speak to people across the political spectrum, appealing to the values we share as we search for solutions.
About our speaker:
As the American-Statesman's Metro columnist, Bridget Grumet brings clarity, purpose and advocacy to the issues facing the Austin area. After two decades covering a range of local government issues, she has a knack for explaining complex topics in a relevant, engaging way. She earned top opinion-writing honors in Texas in the three years she served on the Statesman's Editorial Board. She grew up in New Mexico, went to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., then worked for a couple of newspapers in Florida before moving to Austin nearly a decade ago. Outside the office, Grumet is busy raising her two kids and planning the next family road trip.
