The Future of I-35
I-35 through Austin is about to undergo a major transformation. Learn more about the I-35 Capital Express Program and the three projects that propose to add high-occupancy vehicle managed lanes along 28 miles of I-35. Mobility35 Program Manager Tommy Abrego will walk through the projects, focusing on the proposed improvements through downtown, including alternatives that would remove the upper decks and lower the mainlanes.
About our speaker:
Tommy Abrego began his career with TxDOT in 2007, working as a summer hire in the North Travis Area Office. After graduating from the University of Texas in 2010 with a degree in civil engineering, Tommy accepted a position in the Bridge Division as a bridge design engineer. Three years later, Tommy moved to the Traffic Safety Division where he served in various roles of engineering, policies and standards.
In 2018 Tommy joined the South Travis Area Office and later became the Design Team lead. In that role, he was responsible for delivering design projects in South Travis and Hays counties. Tommy was recently selected to be the Mobility35 Program manager, where he is responsible for overseeing I-35 projects in the Austin District.
