5 Conversations to Help Aging Parents (or Yourself)
Whether you’re the adult child or the aging parent, being prepared can make getting older a lot easier on everyone. Having important conversations is the first step and it’s never too early to start.
For the adult child, helping an aging parent can be overwhelming, confusing and lonely. There’s a lot to know and manage. Kim and Mike Barnes, co-founders of Parenting Aging Parents, are navigating this stage of life and building an online community of support for other adult children. Kim and Mike share five conversations you need to have so you’re ready when a crisis comes.
If you’re an adult child or have adult children, this presentation can open the door to discussions that can help you navigate the push-pull that caregiving can cause physically, mentally, emotionally and financially.
About Our Speakers:
Kim & Mike Barnes have each spent more than 30 years on TV. Kim was a news anchor/reporter and Mike was a sportscaster. As Barnes Team Media, they work with executives, entrepreneurs, speakers and small business owners who want to improve their on-camera presence for video, virtual presentations and media interviews.
But they’re also empty nesters. Their two kids are recent college graduates and their parents are in their 80’s. Now these award-winning journalists are using their professional and personal experiences to support adult children caring for aging parents.
They launched Parenting Aging Parents in 2021 to help others trying to help their parents. Parenting Aging Parents provides content, connection and community so caregivers don’t feel alone and have the information they need to navigate this challenging time.
They have a website with dozens of expert interviews and they lead a private Facebook group with about 4000 members. They like to say, “We’re all in this together!”
