Supporting Women Philanthropy and the Collective Giving Movement
Demetria will tell us about Impact Austin's upcoming grant cycle, and how they partner with local organizations, their DEIB and trust-based philanthropy efforts. She'll also describe how they create effective and collaborative community partnerships, and review the evolution of collective giving here in TX and nationally.
About our speaker:
Demetria George Caston is a passionate philanthropist from Lafayette, LA. With over two decades of development and charitable experience, she is now the Executive Director for Impact Austin, a women's collective giving organization providing transformational grants to Central Texas nonprofits. Before moving to Austin in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, Demetria worked with diverse nonprofit and higher learning institutions to advance their fundraising and outreach efforts, including Make-A-Wish Hawaii, Mercy Ships, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
She is prominently known within the nonprofit community for exhibiting a strong acumen in leadership, fundraising, program development, community engagement and passion for the causes she champions. Her strengths in those areas rendered her a successful term as the Chief Development Officer for Breast Cancer Resource Center in Austin. She has consulted on fundraising campaigns in Texas and the Washington, D. C. area with Community Counselling Service.
Demetria is a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana, where her nonprofit career began as student alumni relations and fundraising volunteer. She remains an active alumna holding key volunteer and leadership positions. Demetria also holds a Master of Science in Health Care Management from the University of New Orleans and has been a Certified Fundraising Executive since 2009.
Locally, she is an active member of the Austin (TX) Chapter of The Links Inc, an international African American women's service organization where she chaired the international services committee. Demetria is a current cohort member of the 2023 cohort of Leadership Texas (Women), a program designed to sharpen women in leadership and advance their vision to leave a lasting legacy. Additionally, she is a 2022 graduate of the African American Leadership Institute cohort in Austin.
While Demetria continues to excel professionally and leave her mark on the philanthropic realm, she is building a legacy for her family as the wife of a 30-year active-duty Army officer, mother of three and grandmother of one. In her spare time, Demetria loves to travel, workout and is a lover of food and wine.
