The League of Women Voters (LWV) Texas is over 100 years old. They are a grassroots civic organizations that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
While many Texans know about low voter participation rates in our country, not everyone knows that Texas consistently has some of the lowest rates in the country. Learn about the big challenges facing democracy in Texas, particularly those related to voter participation. The League of Women Voters actively educates and mobilizes voters, both with time-tested strategies and cutting-edge approaches. Learn about some of the specific ways the League is getting out the vote this fall, including implementing major grant funding from the Houston Endowment Inc. You will become more knowledgeable of problems facing democracy in Texas, understand some effective ways of solving those problems, and learn how you can be part of the solution this fall.
About our speakers:
Aileen McMurrer is the Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Texas, and has been with the League for 10 years.
Stephanie Swanson has been a member of the League since 2017 and served on the State Board from 2020-2024. She is currently the Issue Chair of Voting Rights and Redistricting and helps coordinate the league's advocacy and litigation efforts around these issues.
