Affordable Childcare in Travis County

We will present data and information about the state of affordable childcare in Travis County, efforts to address access and affordability for families, and the short and long-term economic impacts of investing in childcare for children, families and our community.

About our speaker:

Cathy McHorse is passionate about expanding access to high quality early childhood education to all children in our community. She is the manager of the Affordable Childcare Now! Coalition in Travis County.  While with United Way for Greater Austin, Cathy led the Success by 6 Coalition strategic plan and implementation, formed the Early Matters Greater Austin alliance of business leaders as advocates and established the Pre-K Partnership between United Way and AISD.  Cathy chairs the City of Austin Early Childhood Council and serves on several board or committees of several local and statewide organizations. She is committed to finding workable solutions to the market challenges of providing affordable care to working families and will remind everyone that childcare costs are second only to housing costs for families with young children.
