Tommy Abrego, Mobility35 Program Manager at TxDoT

I-35 Update

Tommy will provide an overview of the I-35 Capital Express Program, which aims to enhance safety and improve mobility along 28 miles of I-35 in Austin, from SH 45 North to SH 45 Southeast. The program consists of three stand-alone projects—North, Central, and South. During this presentation, Abrego will discuss construction timelines, potential road closures and detours, and the latest design improvements. This session is essential for understanding the project's impact on travel in Austin.

About our speaker:

Tommy Abrego began his career with TxDOT in 2007, working as a summer hire in the North Travis Area Office.  After graduating from the University of Texas in 2010 with a degree in civil engineering, Tommy accepted a position in the Bridge Division as a bridge design engineer. Three years later, Tommy moved to the Traffic Safety Division where he served in various roles of engineering, policies and standards.

In 2018 Tommy joined the South Travis Area Office and later became the Design Team lead. In that role, he was responsible for delivering design projects in South Travis and Hays counties. Tommy was recently selected to be the Mobility35 Program manager, where he is responsible for overseeing I-35 projects in the Austin District.
