Simone Wicha, Blanton Museum
About our speaker:
Simone Wicha has served as director of the Blanton since 2011 and raised the museum’s profile nationally during this time. One major highlight of her tenure has been securing and realizing Ellsworth Kelly’s Austin, Kelly’s most monumental work of art, which has made the Blanton and Austin a destination for the arts. Most recently, Wicha spearheaded and oversaw a project with the architectural firm Snøhetta to transform visitors’ arrival at the museum, bring the museum’s outdoor spaces to life, and create a hub for the community to gather. Wicha was recognized on the Observer’s list of “51 Artists, Curators, Directors and Dealers Changing the Art World”; Austin Woman magazine’s “Portraits of Power; Tribeza magazine’s “People of the Year”; and penned an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. The projects she has led for the museum have been covered nationally and internationally, ranging from The New York Times and Forbes to The Art Newspaper and The Guardian.
