About the program and speaker:
Ryan Urrutia is Chief of Police for Round Rock ISD.
Chief Ryan Urrutia is a seasoned law enforcement professional with a distinguished career in the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Raised in El Paso, Texas, and a graduate of Irvin High School, Chief Ryan Urrutia began his career in 1996 as a Detention Officer. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Deputy Sheriff in 1997, where he worked in various divisions, including Specialized Traffic Investigations and as an instructor at the Region VIII Training Academy.
His career continued to progress with promotions to Sergeant, where he served in the Patrol Division, Narcotics Division and the Office of Emergency Management. As a Lieutenant, Chief Ryan Urrutia commanded the Peter J. Herrera substation and oversaw the Directed Investigations Division in Criminal Investigations. In 2018, he was appointed Commander and led the Patrol Division, managing multiple patrol stations, emergency response teams, and the Office's school resource officer program. He also played a pivotal role in the deployment of the Crisis Intervention Team designed to provide appropriate law enforcement responses to mental health related calls within the community.
Chief Ryan Urrutia concluded his over 28 year career as Assistant Chief Deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, overseeing operations at the Downtown Detention Facility. Chief Ryan Urrutia holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Purdue University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 267. Ryan is now leading the Round Rock ISD police department as the Chief of Police.
